Other Technologies for Library Transformation
Jean‐Philippe Accart · 2022
Other technologies appear to be gaining in popularity at the moment and are seeing some application in the information world. These include blockchain, virtual reality, artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. Blockchain is useful in the context of transactions: each transaction has a digital fingerprint associated with it so that it can be identified. Blockchain would be effective in managing the data generated by library activity: this is Open Data. Augmented reality is a variation of virtual reality. There is much debate about the arrival of AI and robotization in the service sector. Some libraries are already using robots to guide their users around their premises or answer some simple questions. The idea of collaboration between human and machine seems to be more realistic at present, as well as the potential for the librarian to be freed from a number of repetitive tasks.
