Implicit Vocal Synchrony Quantification
Chi-Chun Lee · River Publishers eBooks · 2022
The existence of vocal entrainment is well-established in psychology and also has been demonstrated in engineering works. This chapter explains various measures on quantifying synchrony for electroencephalography time series signals. The vocal characteristic space is constructed based on a set of parametrized raw acoustic feature streams using Principal Component Analysis. The Couple Therapy corpus originated from a collaborative project between the psychology departments of the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of Washington. The Couple Therapy corpus consists of audio-video recordings, manual transcriptions, and behavioral codings of each couples’ problem-solving interactions. Since the original collection of the Couple Therapy corpus was not optimized for automatic analysis, the database was further processed to aid various behavioral signal processing studies. The framework computes vocal entrainment values at the level of speaking turns for each interlocutor in the interaction.
