A METHOD OF VARIABLE RECOGNITION AND CONNECTION FOR REVIEWING SHIP REGULATIONS

CSR, one of the most referenced documents in the classification, is a rule established for the safe construction of bulk carriers and oil tankers. This document contains not only extensive content but also contains complex equations, figures, and tables. In particular, some variables in the equations represent the requirements of the ships, and they are often defined with other variables. Therefore, even an expert in the review task has the inconvenience of having to search through the CSR several times to find the meaning of the desired variable. Accordingly, we devised an algorithm that automatically recognizes variables in a document and identifies the relationship between each variable. consequently, we developed a program to visualize this information for the user effectively. This study achieved variable recognition accuracy of F1- score=0.96 for CSR, and its effectiveness was confirmed by being applied to related fields.
