Computer Fraud and Countermeasures
Richard E. Cascarino · 2012
This chapter reveals areas of vulnerability to fraudulent use of information systems and provides countermeasures to defend against them. It takes help of data architecture to show the areas where information processing is affected. The most vulnerable to fraud is the central part i.e. data. There are a number of control systems in place for each of the components of data architecture. Under cloud computing, cloud service provider offers application centralization, managed by client's web browser, and gains absolute control over the versions of an application system provided to clients. The methodology proposed by Mandia and Prosise for effective incident investigation is introduced. It comprises of 11 stages: pre-incident preparation, detection of incidents, initial response, response strategy formulation, duplication and the preparation of forensic backups investigation, security measure implementation, network monitoring, recovery, reporting, follow-up. At last, computer laws are explained and elements covered by worldwide legislations are listed.
