Development of a landslide detection surveillance system

Astha Agrawal, Subrat Kar · 2022

A landslide is a natural disaster that causes deaths and loss of life and property. Before the main landslide, several characteristic precursor events like the fall of small stones and rocks occur up to ~180sec before the actual landslide. In this paper, we propose a landslide surveillance system. The surveillance system input is processed by an image processing algorithm that continuously monitors the area and detects and tracks any such precursor events of a landslide. The system issues an alert as soon as it detects any such event. The proposed system requires cheap, low-frame rate cameras, and less memory and bandwidth - making it an effective landslide warning system.
