This chapter covers GTK toolkit basic, and discusses GNOME which is a desktop environment that uses GTK+ as its GUI toolkit. It covers various GNOME-based distros. GNOME3 is the default desktop environment on different major Linux distributions, including Fedora Linux, Rocky Linux, Red Hat Enterprise, Debian, Ubuntu, SUSE Linux Enterprise, CentOS, Pop!_OS, Oracle Linux, Endless OS, and Tails; as well as Solaris, a Unix operating system. The chapter covers some of the most common package management tools that system administrators use on Debian and Ubuntu systems. The Debian-Ubuntu ecosystem is quite a few different package management tools to manage software on the system. GNOME is one of the desktop environment options in the Debian desktop.
