When are several visualisations better than one?

Neil Richards · 2022

This chapter considers the addition of extra copy to the original, acting as a legend and explanation, demonstrating Introduces Schneiderman’s Mantra. The chapter then considers small multiples in the form of multiple copies of the same visualisation, showing change over time, or change across different dimensions. We also demonstrate the use of small multiples to arrange output in a pleasing format, usually in grid style, and gives an example of using small dimensions to contrast different colour schemes and templates.
