Safeguarding the Connected Future: Security in Internet of Things (IoT)
Priti Maheshwary, Timothy Malche · River Publishers eBooks · 2022
Overcoming security issues are one of the main challenges for the Internet of things (IoT). This chapter discusses the need for security in IoT, IoT architecture and attacks on each layer of the IoT architecture, attack surface in IoT, IoT protocols, built-in security features in protocols, and security management. It provides a thorough understanding of major security concerns that are necessary in building secure IoT. The chapter also discusses security challenges, confidentiality, integrity, availability, and non-repudiation. The fundamental IoT architecture includes device-device, device-cloud, device-gateway, gateway-cloud, and cloud-backend-applications. The chapter describes built-in security features of protocols on transport layer such as secure sockets&s; layer/transport layer security and datagram transport layer security and protocols on application layer such as message queuing telemetry transport, constrained application protocol, extensible messaging and presence protocol, and advanced message queuing protocol. The attack surface in IoT is a doorway for attackers to enter into the IoT system and steal information and even take control over the system.
