Reading Data in R
Jean-François Collard · 2022
One of the most promising way to read data is to connect directly to repositories in the JSON format. JSON JavaScript Object Notation is an open standard text-based format that uses human-readable text to store and transmit structured data. Another observation we should make is that market capitalizations are extremely lopsided, and their distribution packs most of the data points on the left while exhibiting a very long right tail. Finance, compared to other industries, is still a field where free repositories of up-to-date data are relatively scarce. Moreover, whatever the internet or the institution you may be working for offers comes in disparate formats. Reading a specific data set, then, is done by specifying its name followed by the package that contains it. For example, the command below loads a data set named edhec from the PerformanceAnalytics package and places the data in a newly created dataframe that has the same name as the data set.
