Video games can often be a medium for technological solutions and innovations that were previously unheard of, but the potential of developing or researching this for anything beyond gaming is often overlooked. This paper examines the strides made towards crafting a responsive opponent based on Artificial Intelligence principles, examining some notable examples throughout the history of the medium, and what the future of such entities may be. This research is used to determine what elements would be the best fit for a prototype game meant to demonstrate the potential of AI as an opponent, and the implementation and modification of this prototype are outlined.
