This work presents a CMOS HDR imager that incorporates an analog local adaptation method to encode the High Dynamic Range (HDR) of natural scenes, overcoming the limitations of basic CMOS imagers related to dynamic range and output limitations from the analog to digital converter (ADC). Through the implementation of a tone mapping technique within the pixel and an analog gamma correction at the ADC level, the paper highlights the reduction in digital computational cost, quantization noise, and power consumption, while avoiding the tone mapping procedure including the gamma correction.
