An Efficient Data Compression Algorithm

Abstract This paper introduces a new and highly efficient data compression algorithm, which is a variant of Lempel-Ziv group of algorithms but much more efficient than other variants of Lempel-Ziv algorithm. Unlike popular data compression tools (zip, rar, 7z, gzip, bzip etc) available in the market that use multiple data compression algorithms together to achieve optimum compression, this algorithm alone is capable of compressing a data much better than deflate[8] (zip) for most of the files > 10–12 MB without using any other data compression technology at the second level, hence leaves enough opportunity for the researchers to achieve much better compression in future by using an entropy algorithm along with the proposed algorithm.
