TAXONOMY OF AI

Tirath Virdee · Edward Elgar Publishing eBooks · 2022

Chapter 25, Taxonomy of AI, sets out what lawyers need to know about AI technologies. There are some gating items for lawyers to engage with: for example, the correct use of terminology, the correct understanding of the nature of the technology and the ability to recognise how and why different use cases are applicable to a business problem. The chapter discusses a current debate about ownership and protection of knowledge. This neatly ties into the discussion in the IP chapter. The legal issues related to algorithms are broadly described and it is clear that this is destined to be a very important area for policy, implementation and collaboration between computer scientists and lawyers.
