Despite the substantial efficiency advancements, today's cloud services and related paradigms need vast amounts of energy and network, and this demand is only expected to grow. One of the main research questions is whether and how transitioning to edge computing may help reverse this trend. Simulations play a vital role in research since real-world deployments of edge or fog infrastructure are infrequent. In this research, we look at how to use a range of simulation tools to help with computation-intensive offloading in edge networks. This paper aims to determine the average energy consumption of compute nodes, as well as network traffic and applications, over experimental edge-based networks using an adaptive offloading approach and a blend of analytical and precisely defined modeling tools.
