Figures of Merit of a Locked Tunable Oscillator

The paper discusses quantities to characterize close-in phase noise performance of a locked tunable oscillator in low phase noise applications. It is shown that low phase noise of the oscillator is an inappropriate criterion for the oscillator selection. Correct target quantities are derived and discussed.
