Fenomena Perilaku Makan Toddler Dan Hubungannya Dengan Perilaku Pemberian Makan Orang Tua

Toddler cannot fully independent in meeting their eating need. They can be very picky with foods and even be fussy eaters. Parents as the main caregiver usually follow along with their children. The aims of this study were to identify children’s eating behavior as well as parents’ behavior in feeding toddlers, and its correlation. The study was used cross sectional design. Samples of the study consisted of 85 parents having children of 1-3 years old at Depok, Sleman Yogyakarta. The study used questionnaire of children’s eating behavior and parents’ behavior in feeding their children. Statistical analysis used Pearson product moment correlation. Among parents surveyed, there was correlation between children’s eating behavior and parents’ behavior in feeding their toddlers (p=0.037). The most common eating behavior of children was desire to drink and food responsiveness. Parents showed a good result almost in every item of parents’ feeding behavior. Children’s eating behavior was positively correlated with parents’ feeding behavior. It is important for parents to be gatekeeper for the child eating behavior. The role of parents are to provide nutritious food to fulfill the child’s need of calory in their developmental stage. Parents should niether always allowing what their children want to eat nor forcing their child to eat something.
