As a fundamental core element for the security of various encryption algorithms and protocols, high-quality true random numbers as keys have a pivotal impact on the implementation of unpredictable key properties and the implementation of basic security means such as nonlinear diffusion and obfuscation. In order to ensure the quality of generated random numbers, the entropy source of TRNG is mostly implemented based on random physical processes in the environment, which also makes TRNG vulnerable to environmental changes, thus reducing the quality of generated random numbers and eventually leading to a decrease in the security of the whole cryptosystem. In this paper, we investigate the security of the TRNG in the presence of fault disturbance by combining a bias-capture-based security metric with the currently widely used oscillating ring-type random number generator. The experiments show that the improved metric can better characterize the fault perturbation scenario with fewer sampling samples, and the experimental results provide a reference for the security evaluation of oscillatory sampling-based TRNG.
