Research Challenges and Future Directions in Applying Blockchain Technology in the Healthcare Domain

The world has got digital revolution with the ease of storing and sharing data with the help of information technology, every sector is getting digitalized, and the healthcare sector is one of them. After the pandemic hitting the globe dangerously, people understood the need for digitalization of the healthcare domain better, either be it for consultation with healthcare practitioners to the delivery of medicines we need everything to be digitalized. However, one of the major challenges in this digitalization is the safety of data and here blockchain technology leads the role. Blockchain technology is a chain of blocks that maintains trust and information between different users and hence plays an important role in providing privacy of data to the users. Blockchain can resolve one of the major concerns of the healthcare domain that is interoperability. With the emergence of technology, blockchain will be a boon in the healthcare industry. In this chapter, we will discuss the application of blockchain across healthcare domain, such as data storage, management, and security on the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) along with their challenges and its future directions, like in health education, clinical trials, drug delivery, claims, and bill management, and so on.
