The use of monolithic architecture is considered ineffective for use in large-scale applications because it can affect the complexity of further development. In addition, the use of monolithic architecture allows failure of part of the system that can affect the entire system, so that the application must be fully maintained. Microservices is an architecture built by separating component parts (services) that do not depend on each other and have their respective functions. Each service can communicate and is managed by an API gateway that implements GraphQL as a data communication protocol. The method of decomposition of the system into service is carried out by applying the Decomposition by business capability pattern method. In this study, the authors recommend the use of a new system architecture for Academic Information System on UIN Jakarta based on literature studies from existing research. The result of this research is an analysis and architectural design of microservices with GraphQL as the API Gateway for the academic information system of UIN Jakarta for student.
