Note on Second Order Superlattices for a Face-Centered Cubic Lattice
Hiroshi Sato · Institutional Repositories DataBase (IRDB) · 1952
We have pointed out here that CuPt is one of the second order superlattices for a face-centered cubic lattice, the existence of which is, however, considered to be fairly difficult according to the formal theory. From the general theory of higher order superlattice, there may be two typical AB cases for the second order superlattice for this lattice type : trigonal case and orthorhombic case. CuPt belongs to the former. CuAu II seems to belong to the latter case, but the actual unit cell is different. Not only the symmetry of the lattice, but also the lattice itself changes at the superlattice formation. This deformation will thus have an important effect on the nuclear formation of superlattice at an early stage of the transformation.
