Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) is a concept for disaggregating software from hardware and opening interfaces to allow interoperability between multiple vendors. The usage of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning solutions enables sensing RAN environment and application context to enhance RAN performance. Embedding intelligence at network and component level allows dynamic radio resource allocation and optimization of network efficiency. The paper studies an O-RAN use case of Internet of Medical Things aimed at optimization of radio resource management. The use case illustrates the adaptive inactivity timer control for narrowband medical devices.
