DegChain: Development of Blockchain Framework for Generation and Verification of Educational Certificates

Educational degree certificate is the most important document that gets issued to the candidates after the completion of their educational program. The generation process involves multiple participants which carry their own set of conditions and constraints. The candidate needs to be validated and approved from different units of the educational system. There is a challenge of coordination among these units, which causes delays and inefficiencies. Blockchain has been observed as the technology to mitigate such challenges. This paper presents DegChain, a private permissioned blockchain based framework for the purpose of generating and verifying educational degree certificates. Degree certificates are generated based on approvals from the participating entities, which is then uploaded to the DegChain ledger and a private key is shared to the candidate for the purpose of verification. The paper concludes with comparative analysis of DegChain with other related works.
