Teams, Channels, Chats, and Apps

Microsoft Teams consists of teams, channels, chats, and apps. This chapter details the core functionality of teams, channels, chats, and apps. Teams are built on Microsoft 365 groups and can be created in two ways: created to be private to only invited users and created to be public and open so anyone within the organization can join. One can create three types of channels in a team: standard, private, shared. When a team is created from scratch, it will contain a default channel called General and three tabs, which include Posts, Files, and Wiki. Chats in Teams can be one-on-one or in a group. The benefit of using chat in Teams is being able to cut down on email communication for conversations that should be more chat driven. Channels are most valuable when extended with apps that include tabs, connectors, and bots, which increases the value to the members of the team.
