Blockchain technology and metropolitan planning

This paper assesses the potential significance of blockchain technology in metropolitan planning.Blockchain technology offers a lot of potential benefits in spatial planning through a number of technological tools.This technology can be used in metropolitan planning for several analytical purposes.These include urban and rural transportation planning and modelling, logistics planning, demarcation and identification of metropolitan borders, metropolitan hinterland and morphological components of metropolitan area (central business district, land uses, transition zone, urban and rural fringe and commuter belt etc.), accessibility analysis of metropolitan services, monitoring of safety services in urban and rural areas and determination of optimum service areas for public services in metropolitan areas.Blockchain technology enables decentralized management and governance, smart and real time analysis and planning and incentivized services in metropolitan areas.Methodologically, the paper makes a theoretical and conceptual analysis rather than data analysis.
