Robust Prediction of Upgoing Multiples Using the Direct Arrival Wavefield on Obs Data

Summary Current OBS acquisition is often sparse in receivers and it is therefore attractive to use processing techniques that operate in the common-receiver domain. The paper illustrates a fit-for-purpose method that predicts upgoing multiples using only data operators. The method is based on the up/down wavefield deconvolution (UDD) but requires the knowledge of the downgoing direct arrival pressure wavefield. The direct arrival allows a robust prediction of upgoing multiples in the presence of mild deviations from a 1D medium assumption. The method is tested on synthetic data.
