Optimizing Performances in the IoT: An Approach Based on Intelligent Radio

Badr Benmammar · 2022

This chapter presents a complete study on the challenges and enabling technologies of the Internet of Things (IoT). It provides a complete study on the motivations and challenges of applying application radio in the IoT. Intelligent or cognitive (RC) radio exploits opportunistic access to frequency bands by Secondary Users to increase spectral efficiency. The cognitive radio system needs four main functions that enable it to use the spectrum opportunistically. These functions use the four stages of the RC terminal to manage the spectrum, which are spectrum detection, spectrum decision, spectrum analysis and spectrum mobility. The chapter categorizes the articles studied according to their challenges and the type of network as well as the validation tool used. The IoT uses different technologies, such as Cloud services, data modeling, storage, reasoning, sensors, processing and communication technologies to build a global vision. Communication mechanisms in the IoT are meant to be wired or wireless.
