The provision of system information plays a major role in the proliferation of quickly reconfigurable IoT applications. System information is needed to assess the capabilities of an IoT device, and whether it can host a specific application in terms of computational or other hardware resources. For Unix systems, filesystems such as sysfs act as a source of such information, which are too big to be used on IoT operating systems such as RIOT OS or RTOS. In this paper, we present dcafs, an interface specifically for IoT operating systems that follows the tradition of sysfs.
