Kinect (codenamed Project Natal during development) is a motion-sensing input device produced by Microsoft. It is based on a webcam-style add-on peripheral. It enables users to control and interact with their console/computer without needing a game controller through a natural user interface that can use gestures and spoken commands. So, one of the input sensors in the virtual reality (VR) world is Kinect; formerly, this sensor was used just like an in-game tool, but recent developments show its capacities in other applications like health, education, etc. Learning VR without Kinect is meaningless. This sensor is divided into two versions of v1 and v2. After a short introduction about two types of Kinect structure, this chapter will help users how to use both versions in Unity. The described projects are based on Kinect Xbox 360 and Kinect v2. Both projects aim to detect the user by Kinect and show its movement in Unity. Users are guided to finish each one step by step.
