A brief history of video switching systems for live events is the purpose of this chapter. It will cover how the use of broadcast video technology paved the way for dedicated systems that handle high resolution multi-screen productions. Comparison of the methods in which computer signals are handled will be discussed along with the issues this raised. The chapter will touch on the subject of frame rates and how there may never be a consensus between film and video creators. There will be a history of image processing and the various companies that made signal processing hardware and those that predominate the current live events market.
