Hyperledger Fabric as a smart contract platform has been increasingly used to deploy many services. To protect stored data in a ledger from an adversary, encrypting the data is desirable before storing it on the ledger. In this paper, we propose an access control mechanism on Hyperledger Fabric smart contracts called chaincodes. Our approach for data protection is based on an attribute-based encryption scheme, which provides efficient key management for encryption and decryption by avoiding managing secret keys through using attributes. We describe how to implement the attribute-based encryption into chaincodes and then evaluate the performance with respect to execution time for data store and query.
