IoMT and Blockchain-Based Intelligent and Secured System for Smart Healthcare

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is a special application of the Internet of Things (IoT). It is the integration of medical devices, hardware and software applications, etc. that connect to healthcare IT systems through online computer networks. It provides a platform for doctors, patients, hospital equipment, and lab pathologists to access diagnostic gear and wearable technology by transmitting information over a secure network. The basis of IoMT is the reduction of the need for unnecessary visits to the doctor’s office or a hospital through the usage of medical devices. In addition to that, it also lowers costs for both patients and providers. IoMT devices equipped with Wi-Fi link to cloud platforms such as AWS (Amazon Web Services), allowing the machine-to-machine communication, storage and analysis of data, etc. Blockchain with IoMT could be an integration of two major technology for the development of an intelligent smart healthcare. In this chapter, we have provided detailed description of the role of IoMT and Blockchain in smart healthcare.
