The Challenges of Communicating About Security Awareness

One of the positive and negative points about security awareness is that, if it can be well devised and targeted, then a change of process or behaviour can seem like common sense, in that it is an obviously safer way to work. A range of elements including cultural context in the organisation and even across different groups in an organisation can make a difference to which approach is most successful. On this particular day, Mr. Watson was touring the production plant with his entourage. The security procedure was relatively simple with coloured ID badges indicating which areas particular people should, or should not, have access to. The story goes that Watson and his colleagues approached one of these more sensitive areas and were greeted by a security officer, as procedure dictated. Thankfully, these are issues that are easy to fix, and usually come from multiple people working on the same document from different perspectives at different times.
