Symantec tracks commercialisation of malware

Symantec's 11 th Internet Security Threat report has identified some worrying trends in internet crime. The report, which evaluated the security situation for the second half of last year, identified increasingly sophisticated commercially-focused attacks that combined different types of exploit. This edition of the report, which was Symantec's first to monitor the sale of stolen information, also revealed an increase in botnet activity. The report revealed that online criminals are combining and refining their techniques to make them more effective, said Dean Turner, its executive editor.
