Protecting Your Computer

Bart R. McDonough · 2018

This chapter explains why it is vital to incorporate additional essential cyberhygiene habits on top of having a reliable antivirus program. Cryptojacking is more lucrative for bad actors than other attacks, such as ransomware, because it doesn't require any interaction with the victim, it can persist for extended periods of time, and it can be performed from anywhere in the world. The chapter discuss how bad actors and nonmalicious websites mine web visitors without ever downloading a program onto our computer. The core steps are provided to keep our computer secure, protect our information, identity, and integrity of our devices. It is important to remember that we can't rely on one defense mechanism, such as antivirus, to protect the computer fully. Cybersecurity is a layered defense approach, and it works efficiently only when the layers are combined regularly.
