ADAPTATION CHANNELS
G. J. Marshall, A. BEHROOZ · Cybernetics & Systems · 1995
The problem of adapting an object that can perform a given task in one environment so that it can perform another, perhaps similar, task in a different environment occurs in many guises. We identify the adaptation channel as a means of providing such adaptation automatically. This channel must accept an object from one environment and “program” it to operate in the other environment. This paper identifies a number of familiar areas in which the need for an adaptation channel arises, derives an architecture for the channel in a specific application, and explores various ways in which the channel might be implemented for general application.
