The MaxiMOST System
Kjell B. Zandin, Therese M. Schmidt · 2020
The MaxiMOST System is used to measure work for long-cycle, non-repetitive, non-identical assembly, machining or maintenance operations and is comprised of three core sequence models: Part Handling, Tool Use and Machine Handling. Two supplementary sequence models are used for Powered Cranes and Powered Trucks. The Part Handling Sequence Model is used to analyze the movement of objects either spatially or in a restricted manner. The Tool Use Sequence Model is used for the analysis of common hand tools or equipment and also includes activities related to cutting, surface treating, measuring and recording. Machine Handling is used for analysis of the manual operations associated with manipulating the controls of machines. The sequence models used in MaxiMOST are comprised of parameters which are letters representing activities for each movement. Each parameter and its application rules for BasicMOST are defined in detail in this chapter. When applying the application rules, index values representing the time for the activity are applied to each parameter resulting in a total TMU (Time Measurement Unit). The TMU total can be converted to seconds, minutes or hours and, with allowances applied, provide the time for the engineered standard.
