High‐Degree Mesh Visualization

Paul Louis George, Frédéric Alauzet, Adrien Loseille, Loïc Maréchal · 2020

The increasing potential of high-order methods for both mesh elements and for the solutions provided by such meshes requires the design and development of specific algorithms. This chapter shows how to develop investigation tools for high-degree mesh visualization and how to implement the tools based on the available graphic primitives. It describes the geometric operators and topological operators required to visualize a mesh. Planar meshes are represented in wireframe mode, that is, their edges are plotted. The chapter discusses several types of subdivisions of elements of planar meshes, including uniform subdivision into straight triangular elements, adaptive tessellation, and multiparameterized tessellation. The chapter also discusses how to use the possibilities offered by OpenGL to implement a mesh visualization process and presents the mesh visualization algorithm.
