Service failure resulting from attack

Network Security · 2000

Yahoo! Inc. has blamed a “planned attack” by computer hackers for a service failure that lasted nearly three hours at the beginning of February. The failure was attributed to a denial-of-service attack where one or more hackers flooded a network with a steady stream of data resulting in a jam on the network. The denial-of-service attack was reported to come from dozens or even hundreds of computers and at its peak the attack directed one gigabyte of traffic a second at Yahoo! making it impossible for the company to communicate with its customers.
