The purpose of this chapter is to introduce the reader to the set of tools (utility programs as well as other methods) for analyzing the contents of the Windows binary files. Even though the Linux objdump utility has some capabilities of analyzing the PE/COFF format, the strict focus in this chapter will be on indigenous Windows tools, which are more likely to be up to par with any changes to the PE/COFF format which may happen along the way.
