Implementation of non-stringed instruments without body

The basic concept of this paper comes from the non-stringed instruments which are not necessary to tune and change its strings before performances. In this paper, the guitar is chosen as an example of non-stringed instrument. The non-stringed guitar consists of three parts: chord glove, laser strings, and sound processing. Chord glove composed of Force Sensing Resistors(FSRs) and Flex sensors represents guitar chords, and laser strings composed of laser module and photo diodes represent real guitar strings. Then, the pitch of the sound can be determined by using each value of sensors from chord glove and laser strings through ADC on AVR board and is transferred to the Max/MSP that is a sound processing software. Consequently, we can play the non-stringed guitar with chord glove and laser strings in real time. In addition, the extension of this system can be applied to other kinds of stringed instruments in the future.
