UCD Teams
Brian Still, Kate Crane · 2017
Designers will probably consider the dedicated User-Centered Design (UCD) team, as part of a UCD-driven organization, the ideal team. In all likelihood, the products it makes and sells are not only created using a UCD methodology, but they are also marketed and sold to targeted users as being about and for them. UCD is a way of doing business for such organizations. UCD-driven organizations can be hierarchical or top-down in their management strategy, meaning leaders at the top of the administrative structure make decisions that are passed down through the chain for others to manage and carry out. The organization makes its money on UCD, so it is committed in every way to putting users as the focus of design. A role designers may find their in, either because they advance in seniority at an organization or because they are brought in for the explicit purpose of becoming the new design leader, is that of UCD team director.
