A shell is a very important feature or interface of Linux which allows you to interact with a Linux system. This chapter introduces shells, specifically Bourne shell (sh) and Bourne Again Shell (bash), and their features. Further, it presents shells’ command line structure, interpretive cycle, and variables, including environment variables.
