The Call Control Protocol in a Separated Call and Bearer Environment
Dick Knight, Bryan Law · 2001
The separation of call and bearer to support future teleservices and services in broadband networks is outlined in Chapter 15. Various mechanisms to undertake the separation are considered, and the method chosen by ITU and ETS is described in detail. A full protocol model for broadband access signalling is derived and explained through the basic steps leading to the establishment of an association between end points supporting call control information flows. The call control protocol is outlined and illustrated by information flows. With the new millennium, many telecommunications network operators are gearing up to provide telecommunications networks that will satisfy the majority of demands which new feature-rich applications will place upon them. To some people, supporting application requirements for a telecommunications network might mean adding more intelligence to the network. Others may wish to transmit data at faster speeds, communicate more freely on the move, or be able to mix and match the appropriate network infrastructure as they, or their applications, choose to do so. These diverse application requirements are shaping the strategies being pursued by telecommunications network operators to deliver integrated telecommunications networks for the next millennium.
