Operations, Administration, Maintenance, Provisioning, and Troubleshooting for Business Services

Victor Blake, Brian Hedstrom, Sergio Gambro, Stuart Hoggan, Mehmet Toy · 2015

This chapter describes Operations, Administration, Maintenance, Provisioning, and Troubleshooting (OAMPT) including security for the business network and services. The processes and systems for business services in cable have traditionally been vertically integrated with specific technologies. Security concerns for network operators include all the same concerns for enterprise networks and many additional challenges. The approach used to provide security for business customers, which differs from residential, is the segregation of business services, even Internet access, into separate IP address ranges and classes of services. Provisioning is the process of making provisions with network and system resources required to provide a service. Perhaps the greatest challenge for OAMPT is not the ongoing addition of new technologies to operate and support, but to maintain backward compatibility with often aging technologies. Service orders are an important concept for service providers.
