THE CONSTRUCTION OF SOLUTIONS TO ACOUSTIC SCATTERING PROBLEMS IN A SPHERICALLY STRATIFIED MEDIUM

The problem of the scattering of acoustic waves by a spherically stratified in-homogeneous medium is considered. The approach is based on a new representation for solutions to the reduced wave equation in a spherically stratified medium. For small values of the wave number the Born approximation is recovered, whereas approximation methods can also be obtained for larger values of the wave number where the Born approximation may no longer be valid.
