Working with Excel Ranges and Tables

Michael Alexander, Dick Kusleika, John Walkenbach · 2018

Most of the work a user does in Excel involve cells and ranges. Understanding how best to manipulate cells and ranges will save the time and effort. This chapter discusses a variety of techniques that are essential for Excel users. In addition to two-dimensional ranges on a single worksheet, ranges can extend across multiple worksheets to be three-dimensional ranges. Excel also enables the user to copy or move a cell or range by dragging. Unlike other methods of copying and moving, dragging and dropping does not place any information on either the Windows Clipboard or the Office Clipboard. When user designates a range as a table, Excel gives it special properties that make certain operations easier and that help prevent errors. Custom table styles are available only in the workbook in which they were created.
