Teaching Features

Frederick F. Weiner, Nicholas W. Bankson · Language Speech and Hearing Services in Schools · 1978

An instructional procedure for teaching the stop-fricative contrast is presented. The procedure teaches awareness of the friction aspect of fricative rather than the contrast of using a minimal pair of sounds. It may be used as a model to teach any feature contrast. Successes and failures using the procedure are discussed.
