Digital Signal Processing and Control

Xiao Perry · 2018

Signal processing is important for many applications. With the power of modern computers, many signal processing functions can now be done digitally. MATLAB has a Signal Processing Toolbox that can make digital filter design much simpler. Digital filter design is a complex topic as it involves complicated math. This chapter illustrates how to use the Arm® Mbed™-digital signal processing (DSP) library to perform digital signal processing, e.g., low-pass filter, high-pass filter, band-pass filter, band-stop filter and notch filter. It also illustrates how to use the Arm® Mbed™-DSP library to perform fast Fourier transform (FFT) and inverse FFT, as well as how to implement a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. Finite impulse response (FIR) filters and infinite impulse response (IIR) filters are the commonly used digital filters. The FIR filter is used here as it requires no feedback loop and is more stable.
