Single Sign-On Security
John Wylder · Auerbach Publications eBooks · 2003
In developing a strategic security program, there is always the need to balance productivity with security. In the effort to improve security, companies have evolved from the simple user ID and password system to the more sophisticated model of identity management. Identity management itself has become almost synonymous with single sign-on (SSO), the goal of which is to balance verification of identity with improved productivity. Identity management covers a broad area in the information security industry, including remote access, authentication schemes, password management, and user profile provisioning. Each of these areas is important in the creation of a comprehensive information security program. Single sign-on remains an important topic, worthy of an in-depth review and separate discussion.
