Planet noise
Physics Bulletin · 1975
Observations from spacecraft on radio emissions from Jupiter, Earth and Saturn have led two scientists from the Goddard Space Flight Centre tentatively to suggest a method for estimating the magnetic field of Saturn. In a report in Science 189 285, M L Kaiser and R G Stone have assumed that the frequency of noise from a planet is at or near the gyrofrequency of electrons which have been precipitated into the planet's ionosphere and trapped in its magnetic field.
